Careers: Estimator


Required Skills

  • MUST have homebuilding experience
  • 5 years’ minimum experience as an estimator required
  • Detail-oriented, and well organized with ability to prioritize
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with office staff, field personnel, vendors, and sub-contractors
  • Must be a team player with strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must have ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and adapt to special tasks


Estimator’s areas of responsibility are, but not limited to:


  • Review new plans and elevation revisions to prepare detailed material takeoffs
  • Perform accurate takeoffs for all materials used in the home
  • Coordinate with Engineer to incorporate value engineering concepts into the design and construction of homes
  • Determines feasibility on customer requested, non-standard options by estimating material and labor needed, establishing pricing, and verifying accuracy of purchase orders
  • Reviews start packages prior to distribution to validate accuracy of purchase orders, thereby, reducing field issues
  • Perform cost analysis recommendations for new and existing plans, as well as, proposed plan changes
  • Evaluate first time plans to eliminate construction issues, and identify more economical construction practices to maximize profitability
  • Eliminate material waste by serving as gatekeeper for field-initiated takeoff change requests
  • Conduct field inspections on homes for takeoff validations
  • Create and administer training to educate on proper construction methods to prevent misuse of materials and eliminate variances
  • Proofs all blueprints to determine practicality and efficiency of plans
  • Collaborate with staff to identify costs saving measures in materials, labor, plan design and processes

  • Ability to move around work environment including construction sites
  • Comply with company policies and procedure
